People’s History Museum Faces £200,000 Funding Shortfall

That the Parliament is concerned that the People’s History Museum in Manchester is facing a funding shortfall of £200,000 after the UK Government cut its budget; understands that this funding cut equates to 20% of the museum’s budget and that this is the only museum in England dedicated to celebrating the history of working people; further understands that it charts the history of the workers' movement, from the deportation of the Tolpuddle martyrs to the stoic heroism of Lancashire’s mill workers during the American civil war and the solidarity with the movement against apartheid in South Africa; believes that the museum plays an important part in telling the history of the British labour movement, and calls on the UK Government to explain its decision.
