Equality for Disabled People
The motion
That the Parliament believes that disabled people have experienced stigmatisation because of the roll-out of the UK Government’s welfare reforms; further believes that the reforms have had a negative impact on disabled people's mental wellbeing, personal resilience and future expectations; considers that the future policies of the Scottish Government in relation to benefits for disabled people should be framed and publicised in such a way as to promote dignity and respect; believes that such benefits should enable claimants, whether in employment or not, to meet the costs of care and mobility and help them to avoid social isolation and remain active members of the community; further believes that they should promote independent living, and considers that these would be positive outcomes for the whole of society.
