East Kilbride Crown Post Office
The motion
That the Parliament notes the announcement by Post Office Ltd that it will no longer proceed with plans for the franchising of East Kilbride Crown Post Office; understands that Post Office Ltd has been unable to find a suitable partner in the retail sector willing to act as a franchisee and that the post office will therefore remain under the management of Post Office Ltd; further understands that the announcement has been welcomed by community leaders in East Kilbride and by the Communication Workers Union, which represents the local workforce; believes that the franchising of this post office would have had an adverse impact on the town centre by diminishing the range of services available to the people of the town and hitting footfall, and hopes that Post Office Ltd will in future consider the merits of a "town centre first" approach to decisions about where to locate services and the range of services that it provides.
