The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Scot-Hatch on qualifying as one of 10 semi-finalists in the New Things category in the Pitch to Rich 2015 competition run by Virgin Media Business; notes that Scot-Hatch’s "new thing" is scallop ranching, which it believes is new to Scotland but is a method that has been used in other parts of the world to sustainably increase the production of scallops; understands that Japan reversed the decline in its natural scallop fishery, increasing production from 10,000 tonnes to 400,000 tonnes using ranching techniques; believes that in the ranching production process no chemicals, antibiotics or pesticides are used and the scallops require no artificial feed as they feed from the sea; understands that the competition is to find the country’s most exciting and innovative businesses and that it offers a £1 million prize fund to support three winning businesses, and wishes Scot-Hatch all the best in inspiring a new scallop ranching industry in Scotland that it hopes will create many jobs and be truly sustainable.
