Réseau d’Excellence des Territoires Insulaires Conference in Orkney
The motion
That the Parliament notes that the annual Réseau d’Excellence des Territoires Insulaires (RETI) conference will be held in Orkney on 26 to 28 June 2015; welcomes the 70 delegates from 16 universities around the world to the University of the Highlands and Islands’ Centre for Nordic Studies in Kirkwall; understands that RETI is a federation of island universities with a common interest in island issues and that, this year, the conference will focus on the impact of cultural heritage on economic development in island destinations; understands that the University of the Highlands and Islands has been a member of RETI for three years and considers that it is in an excellent position to share its experience in education and research in island environments as the UK’s leading integrated university; wishes all participants an inspiring time at the conference, and hopes that having what it considers this prestigious conference in Orkney will place the university's Centre for Nordic Studies firmly on the island studies map.
