The Use of Wild Animals in Circuses

Lodged by Elaine Murray Members' Business Motion 24 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the results of the recent Scottish Government consultation on banning the use of wild animals in circuses, in which 98% of respondents considered that the use of wild animals for performance should be banned and 96.4% considered that their use for exhibition without performance should be banned; is disappointed that proposed legislation banning the use of wild animals across the UK has not materialised, and notes the view expressed in Dumfriesshire and across the country that legislation banning what it considers this barbaric practice should be introduced in Scotland as soon as possible.
