Report on the Cost of the School Day
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the publication of the Poverty Leadership Panel’s report, The Cost of the School Day; understands that a fifth of children in Scotland live in poverty and that this presents significant barriers to receiving a top-quality education; believes that the report identifies a number of key costs affecting low-income families with schoolchildren in Dunfermline and across the country, including the cost of school uniforms, transport, lunches and materials; welcomes what it sees as the inclusive approach taken by the reporters in interviewing 339 pupils and 111 staff members in order to fully understand the key issues affecting them; thanks Child Poverty Action Group Scotland, Glasgow City Council, the Glasgow Centre for Population Health and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde on what it is understands is the support and input that they provided, and notes the view that it is hoped that the key stakeholders will examine the report’s recommendations closely.
