Prisoners’ Week 2015, Challenging the Notion of Us and Them

That the Parliament welcomes Prisoners’ Week 2015, which will take place from 15 to 22 November; notes that this is the 40th year of this initiative taking place and this year the focus will be to challenge the notion of us and them; further notes that the week will consist of a series of events in communities and in prisons, organised by the prison service chaplaincy teams and their colleagues; understands that some prisons will have services to which the families of prisoners will be invited, offering support also to the children and partners of those in custody; congratulates prison service chaplaincy teams on doing their bit in engaging with communities and prisoners alike to ensure that no one is left behind; acknowledges the importance of links between communities and prisoners in an effective rehabilitation process, and wishes to encourage strengthened relationships between prisons and their local communities.
