World COPD Day

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes World COPD Day on 18 November 2015, which was set up to raise awareness of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); understands that the theme for 2015 is, It’s Not Too Late, and that the day will promote the actions that people can take to improve respiratory health, both before and after a diagnosis of COPD; notes that typical symptoms include increased breathlessness, a persistent cough with phlegm, wheezing and frequent chest infections understands that, while there is no cure, the sooner the condition is diagnosed and appropriate treatment begins, the less chance there is of severe lung damage; encourages members to visit the World COPD Day website for further information on the risk factors, symptoms, diagnoses and treatments, and commends the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease on organising the day and in its work to improve prevention and treatment of the condition around the world.
