The motion

That the Parliament notes that November 2015 is Lung Cancer Awareness Month; understands that lung cancer is the most common cancer worldwide and that more than 35,000 people die from it in the UK every year, with often a shockingly short six-month average time between diagnosis and death; believes that, although smokers and ex-smokers have an increased risk of developing the condition, one in seven people diagnosed have never smoked; understands that, the earlier the diagnosis, the better the effectiveness is of treatment and the ability to survive; recognises the charities that are involved during the month, in particular the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, and understands that the foundation funds research and supports the prevention of the condition by encouraging and helping people to quit smoking and by raising general awareness of the cancer and its symptoms.
