The motion

That the Parliament congratulates James Gillespie’s High School on recently being named Scottish State School of the Year by the Sunday Times School Guide; recognises what it considers the school’s fantastic achievement of 78% of its leavers gaining five National 5s at grades A to C, 59% of pupils leaving with a minimum of five good Highers and 26% attaining Advanced Highers at grade C or above; understands that the school received the award during a time when it was undergoing a period of extensive redevelopment, at a cost of £42.8 million, causing upheaval to staff and pupils; appreciates that this is the second time a school in the Edinburgh Southern constituency has won the award, following Boroughmuir High School’s success in 2012, and pays tribute to the headteacher, Donald MacDonald, his staff and pupils.
