Musicians from Scottish Branches of CCE Taking Part in Macalla 1916

That the Parliament warmly congratulates Roisin Anne Hughes, Patrick Callaghan and Mohsen Amini, who are from Scottish branches of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCE), on being included in the Comhaltas National Folk Orchestra of Ireland-commissioned, Macalla 1916, which will be led by the composer, Michael Rooney; considers that their inclusion in this prestigious musical commission with the world-renowned composer reflects the strong cultural bonds between Scotland and Ireland; understands that the piece reflects on the events of Easter 1916 and the history leading up to the rising; believes that it also celebrates the rich culture and traditions of Ireland today; notes what it sees as the huge positive impact that CCE has had in Scotland through its teaching of hundreds of young people from a variety of backgrounds about traditional Irish music and culture; further notes the work of its branches, including the Irish Minstrels CCE in Glasgow, St Patricks CEE in Coatbridge, St James the Great CCE in Pollok and the Johnny Doherty CCE in Newarthill, and wishes fiddle-player, Roisin Anne, the button accordionist, Patrick, and Mohsen, who has been named the Scottish Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2016 and plays concertina, and everyone else taking part, every success with the tour, which starts at the Barbican Centre in London on 4 March 2016.
