The Cedar Project Receives a £564,000 Award

That the Parliament welcomes the £564,000 award to extend the work of the charity, Children Experiencing Domestic Abuse Recovery (Cedar); understands that the Cedar project supports four to 16-year-olds in overcoming the trauma of domestic abuse and that feedback for the service from the children who use it as well as other victims of such abuse, parents and schools has been positive; notes that it aims to help the children to manage their behaviour at school and cope with psychological problems, anger and other issues that can be caused by exposure to violence or psychological abuse in the family; notes that the children work in groups of six or more and take part in 90-minute sessions over a period of 12 weeks, with a parallel programme for mothers, which aims to help them cope with the after-effects of abuse and support their children in dealing with the consequences; believes that the grant will help pay for training for more than 150 workers from the health education sector, social work and the police about the impact of such abuse; recognises what it sees as the importance of substantially increasing funding for victims of domestic abuse, and commends everyone involved with the Cedar project on what it considers their excellent work in supporting vulnerable children in Glasgow.
