Scottish Health Survey Results, Physical Activity
The motion
That the Parliament notes the latest Scottish Health Survey results in which the levels of physical activity for children aged two to 15 is reported as remaining significantly below the level in 2009 and the average levels from 1998-2007; notes also the high levels of obesity and being overweight in children referred to in the latest report of the Chief Medical Officer for Scotland; believes that obesity presents one of the greatest challenges to future health and life expectancy; notes the Scottish Government commitment of £3 million to address some of the issues in teenage girls; considers that obesity and being overweight is a socioeconomic aspect of health inequalities, and believes that a far more focussed and concerted effort is required to increase physical activity as well as sports playing a far greater role in the curriculum if the next generation of Scottish adults are to have healthy lives and a continued increase in life expectancy.
