What Makes For Decent Work? A Study with Low Paid Workers in Scotland
The motion
That the Parliament notes the publication of the research report, What Makes For Decent Work? A Study with Low Paid Workers in Scotland from Oxfam Scotland, the University of the West of Scotland and the University of Warwick; understands that this unique report follows a Scotland-wide participative consultation involving more than 1,500 people with a focus on those with experience in low wage sectors or with low earnings; understands that when asked “what makes for decent work”, participants identified a decent hourly rate, job security, paid holidays and paid sick leave, a safe working environment and a supportive line manager as the five main factors; believes that these factors should be considered as basic minimum standards that should be guaranteed to all workers, and commits to working with trade unions, employers and third sector organisations to ensure that all workers in Scotland are guaranteed good quality, well-paid employment.
