Stolen Valour
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges and honours the continuing contribution made to communities by armed forces veterans in the north east of Scotland and across the country; notes with grave concern however, that some individuals have chosen to fraudulently claim that they have served in the armed forces and have been found to wear military regalia and medals to which they are not entitled and includes making false claims to have been involved in specific theatres of conflict and incidents; notes that those making such claims are known among genuine veterans as "Walter Mittys”, and expresses serious concern that the activities of these individuals may have a negative impact on those who have genuinely served their country in the armed forces, as well as the many excellent charities and organisations that work tirelessly to help and support the many thousands of real heroes in Scotland.
