Nick Clegg’s Comments Regarding a Second Independence Referendum

The motion

That the Parliament notes the comments that were made recently by the former Liberal Democrats' leader, Nick Clegg, in which he said that it would be "incredibly difficult" to convince Scots to remain in the UK; understands that a motion will be debated at the Scottish Liberal Democrats' conference stating the party should be “exploring all options” and “ruling nothing out” on Scotland’s constitutional future; further understands that the motion includes the possibility of the party supporting independence; believes that the last thing Scotland needs at a time of uncertainty is the threat of a second vote on its place in the UK, and calls on all who campaigned for the UK in 2014 to reiterate their respect for the democratic will of the people of Scotland, to uphold the promise that the vote was a once-in-a-generation event and to reject the call for a re-run of the vote.
