University of Aberdeen Forms Global Alliance with Largest University in Western Australia
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the announcement of a global alliance between the University of Aberdeen and Curtin University in Perth, the largest university in Western Australia; notes that the alliance will initially involve collaboration in four key fields: medicine and health sciences, energy, creative arts and business; recognises that this alliance presents greater opportunities for students and staff mobility, closer connections with business across a plurality of industries and augmented research capabilities; further recognises the potential for the alliance to open up novel opportunities to bid for international research funding and for joint academic appointments and exchanges; understands the strategic importance of the alliance to Aberdeen, particularly in the context of Perth being one of the largest exporters of liquefied gas in the world; congratulates the 12 PhD students who will receive funding to carry out research projects in Australia and Scotland, and wishes both institutions the greatest possible success with this new and exciting alliance.
