The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the publication of the report, Steps to Change: A New Agricultural Policy for Scotland, by NFU Scotland; notes its comment that “leaving the EU presents the first opportunity in over 40 years to overhaul and rebalance Scottish agricultural policy”; commends what it sees as the broad approach adopted in the paper, with environmental protection, agricultural productivity and financial stability being held as three co-equal benchmarks; agrees with NFU Scotland that “as the UK moves out of the shadow of the Common Agricultural Policy” Scotland has what it sees as the unprecedented opportunity to deliver a fresh agriculture policy that is more competitive, resilient and profitable and in line with it agricultural needs with “efficient food production and the delivery of public benefits” at its forefront, and urges the Scottish Government to work co-operatively with the UK Government to ensure that these, and other opportunities afforded by Brexit, are maximised in the interests of everyone who lives and works in Scotland.
