The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Glasgow has achieved its busiest May on record for conference tourism, with more than 22,000 delegates visiting the city; understands that business tourism in May 2018 helped to boost Glasgow’s economy by £25 million; recognises that such conferences may take many years to secure and are often won in the face of strong national and international competition; congratulates the staff at the Glasgow Convention Bureau for building Glasgow’s reputation as a leading conference destination and for successfully promoting the city to organisations both at home and abroad; commends the staff at venues such as the SECC and the University of Strathclyde for successfully hosting a range of conferences, with thousands of delegates coming through their doors, and wishes the bureau every success in its ongoing efforts to develop strong partnerships with businesses, trade organisations and academic institutions to build on this momentum and to continue to attract prestigious conferences, exhibitions and events to Glasgow.
