Glasgow's SSE Hydro Celebrates Five Years

The motion

That the Parliament notes that Glasgow’s SSE Hydro celebrates its fifth birthday on 30 September 2018, and that the venue has been a tremendous success story for the city in its five short years; further notes that the Hydro has contributed an estimated half a billion pounds to the city’s economy since it opened in 2013; understands that it has exceeded the expected number of visitors, which was originally projected to be in the region of 700,000 per year but has instead been more than one million people annually; welcomes the positive impact that the Hydro has had on the regeneration of Finnieston and other surrounding areas of the city; recognises that the venue has further added to Glasgow’s reputation as a city of music, providing a dedicated music venue to attract global artists of the highest calibre; acknowledges the tireless work of music promotion companies to bring a diverse range of world-class artists to perform at the Hydro; notes that Glasgow’s live music audience has a reputation for creating one of the best-loved atmospheres for performing artists, and congratulates the leadership team and all staff at the Hydro on their drive and dedication to ensure that visitors have the best possible experience and that the venue will continue to deliver for Glasgow in the years to come.
