Celebrating Parkrun's 10th Anniversary in Scotland
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the 10th anniversary of Scotland’s first ever Parkrun, which took place at Pollok Country Park in Glasgow on 6 December 2008; understands that 618 runners turned out for the celebratory 5K Pollok Parkrun on 1 December 2018 to mark the occasion; notes that this is a huge increase in participation from the 44 finishers and seven volunteers a decade ago; congratulates Richard Leyton, who introduced parkrun in Scotland, current director Liz Corbett, as well as parkrun ambassadors, volunteers and sponsors, on successfully expanding the number of parkruns across Scotland to more than 40; welcomes the philosophy that anyone can participate in a parkrun regardless of their running ability, and that there is a focus on encouraging young people and children to join in; notes the benefits of running for overall health and mental wellbeing, and encourages as many people as possible to take part in and further expand the network of parkruns in communities across Scotland.
