The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Dillon Turner, who is an S5 pupil at Lornshill Academy in Alloa, on being told that he has a "bright career ahead of him" by judges at the 2019 FutureChef event after the aspiring chef produced excellent dishes at the South Scotland Regional Final of the contest, at which he came a “very close second” place; understands that Dillon made the event having qualified from a pool of more than 5,000 others at school heats and area finals; notes that he and nine others were put to the test at the final in Glasgow on 8 February; acknowledges that, throughout his journey, Dillon was supported by his teachers, the kitchen team at Inglewood House Hotel and Spa in Alloa and his competition mentor, Brian Scanlon, who is the head chef at the Doubletree Hilton in Dunblane; notes that, while he narrowly missed out on the UK finals, Dillon has been invited to a celebratory dinner at the five-star Prestonfield House in Edinburgh; understands that the aim of the FutureChef competition and its organiser, the Springboard charity, is to help young people in learning to cook to help address the decline in such skills and to alleviate the reported national shortage in chef numbers by fostering a passion in cooking at school level, and wishes Dillon all the very best.
