NFU Campaign, Control your Dog on Farmland
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the new responsible dog ownership campaign from the National Farmers Union (NFU), which was launched at the union’s recent AGM and Conference on 7 February 2019; notes that the 12-month campaign focuses on livestock worrying and dog fouling; acknowledges that these are two of the biggest issues that farmers, crofters and landowners have to deal with and considers that they are caused by irresponsible dog walkers; notes with concern that an NFU survey found that 72% of farmers surveyed have had an issue with livestock worrying on their land and that all have had an issue with dog fouling on their land, including plastic bag pollution and instances where livestock have contracted diseases from eating dog poo and plastic bags, and wholeheartedly supports this campaign, which it hopes will have a positive impact and will encourage dog owners to be more responsible.
