Dementia Walks in the Scottish Borders
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes an increase in the number of dementia-friendly walks delivered by the Scottish Borders walking for health project, Walk It; understands that there are now over 30 walks available in the towns and villages in the Scottish Borders, such as in Coldstream, which are jointly held by Scottish Borders Council and NHS Borders; understands that the walks, which are led by qualified leaders and are free of charge, take into account the particular needs of people with dementia and encourage them to remain active and spend more time with their family and friends during the walk; considers that dementia poses a significant challenge to the NHS and social care services in Scotland, with over 90,000 people living with the condition in Scotland, according to Alzheimer Scotland, and notes with concern that this is set to double within the next 25 years.
