Caledonian Brewery's 150th Anniversary
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the 150th anniversary of the Caledonian Brewery in Edinburgh, which opened in 1869 on Slateford Road, where it still brews to this day; understands that it is the last brewery in the capital still standing from what it considers a golden era, when Scotland was producing more than its fair share of barley and brewers did not have to go far for their malt; believes that it is one of only a small number of breweries to use open fire coppers and that this, together with its use of whole leaf hops, imparts a truly recognisable Caledonian character; applauds it on its longevity, including surviving fires in 1994 and 1998, and wishes it and its staff continued success.
