Recognising the Dundee-based Charity, Kids Operating Room
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the life-changing work undertaken by the Dundee-based charity, Kids Operating Room (KidsOR), which provides surgery for children in some of the world’s poorest and most deprived countries; understands that KidsOR works with local surgeons, national ministries of health and surgical colleges across Africa to create tailor-made operating theatres; notes that this approach has been developed to be sustainable and to allow surgeons to be self-sufficient; understands that, in 2018, the charity prevented approximately 113,900 years of disability, resulting in economic benefits of $48 million; congratulates KidsOR on its life-changing work, and wishes it success as it expands its influence by opening another 18 facilities.
