Macmillan Cancer Support's Financial Assistance
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the news that, in 2018, Macmillan Cancer Support awarded around £1.8 million in grants to 4,900 people in Scotland with cancer who were experiencing hardship; understands that four out of five people with the condition experience a negative financial impact, with the average cost being £420 per month; notes that around £1.3 million of the support that Macmillan provided helped pay for heating and clothing, as cancer can make people feel the cold more and often spend more time at home, and that approximately £110,000 was given to help to cover travel costs to appointments; understands that Glasgow saw the highest number of grants awarded, with £332,700 distributed across the city; encourages people to visit macmillan.org.uk or phone the free support line, 0808 808 0000, for more information about this support; recognises that, as well as this financial assistance, Macmillan also provides a range of practical and emotional support, and applauds the charity for the work that it does to help people with cancer live life as fully as possible.
