Callum Hawkins Sets New Scottish Marathon Record
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Callum Hawkins on setting a new Scottish record time of 2:08:14 at the 2019 London Marathon, at which he finished 10th; notes that this surpassed his previous personal best by over two minutes and broke the 2:09:16 record, which was set by Alistair Hutton in 1985; acknowledges that this was Callum’s first marathon since collapsing with heat exhaustion during the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia; understands that his performance guarantees him a place at the 2019 World Championships in Doha and puts him in contention for a place in the Team GB Olympic squad; commends Callum on his incredible effort, and wishes him continued success.
