University of Dundee Makes Research Breakthrough
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the University of Dundee on its ground-breaking research tool, PICTURES, which it has developed to enable doctors to spot the warning signs of conditions such a lung cancer and dementia; understands that the £4.4 million initiative will see millions of x-rays, MRIs, ultrasound and retinal images collected in a database; understands that such images contain information on the overall health of individuals and can carry clues about their likelihood of developing serious conditions; notes that the project is being led by Dundee, Abertay and Edinburgh universities and will make use of approximately 30 million images collected since 2006, and use AI to search for warning signs within them; recognises the contribution to medical science and advancements in human health that this project presents, and looks forward to viewing the results when they are published.
