Boyd Tunnock's Knighthood

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Boyd Tunnock on being knighted for services to business and charity; recognises that he invented the Tunnock’s teacake in 1956 and that it has become, along with the caramel wafer, among Scotland’s most iconic products; believes that his knighthood is well merited, not just in recognition of his business acumen but also his long history of charitable endeavours, both in his local community of Uddingston, Bothwell and Lanarkshire, as well as further afield, with his support, for example, for the RNLI and the Malin Court Housing Association; considers that Boyd is widely regarded as an example of a truly great businessman with an ingrained sense of personal and corporate social responsibility; believes that young people across Scotland can look to him as a role model for how to run a business and give back to the community, and wishes Boyd and his wife, Anne, well for the future.
