The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Brigadier Sir Melville Jamieson on being awarded the Freedom of the City of Perth; acknowledges that Sir Melville is shortly due to retire from his role as Lord Lieutenant of Perth and Kinross after nearly 14 years in post; understands that the award is being given for his remarkable contribution to the region’s tourism, charities and businesses in attracting a number of high-profile events, including the City of Perth Salute procession, as well as securing royal visits to the area; notes that the Freedom of the City has previously been awarded to other notable dignitaries such as the former prime ministers, Sir Winston Churchill and Anthony Eden, the writer, John Buchan, and the Duke of Edinburgh, and wishes Sir Melville all the best for his retirement.
