Cowdenbeath Shortlisted for UK Government Award

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Cowdenbeath has been shortlisted in the UK Government’s Great British High Street Awards, which puts the town in the running for an award of up to £15,000; understands that the award celebrates high streets that are taking the lead to adapt and diversify and that the town has made it to the final 28 in the Rising Star category; acknowledges that the area has been enhanced recently by a £1.5 million facelift, creating among other things a green square from the former Ritz site as well as various forms of street art; notes that an £8.5 million development at the town's North End will soon see the arrival of businesses such as Lidl and B&M; considers that the collaborative “Love Cowdenbeath” campaign involving the community council, Fife Council, including the tireless work of Councillor Darren Watt, and other organisations and businesses all working together for the future of the High Street have all been instrumental in the town’s continuing renaissance, and wishes everyone involved the best of luck at the awards and with Cowdenbeath’s continued success.
