That the Parliament congratulates Sandy Cortmann, a 97-year-old veteran paratrooper from Aberdeen, on his successful participation in the mass parachute jump in commemoration of Operation Market Garden; notes that this Second World War military operation saw troops parachute behind German lines in an attempt to create an Allied invasion route into Germany; acknowledges Sandy’s part in commemorating the 75th anniversary of this operation as he made a tandem jump with a parachutist from the Army’s Red Devils display team; recognises Sandy’s military service as part of Operation Market Garden in 1944, when he, at 22 years old, parachuted into Arnhem to help secure bridges on the Dutch and German border, and remembers and honours his bravery and all those who have served, as well as those who currently serve in the Armed Forces.
