The motion

That the Parliament commends the National Autistic Society on its second Autism Hour campaign, which is running from 5 to 12 October 2019 and sees shops and businesses across Scotland dim their lights and reduce noise for an hour to help create a calmer atmosphere for customers who have the condition; acknowledges that it is hoped that the businesses taking part will use this to engage with these shoppers, allowing them to tell staff and management about what they need; notes that the campaign is also providing the businesses with information and practical advice about autism that has been developed by the charity; hopes that the initiative will raise public understanding and help the estimated 58,000 people in Scotland with autism to enjoy improved shopping experiences, and encourages Members to join the photocall in the Garden Lobby on 10 October to help highlight the Parliament’s cross-party support for working towards an autism-friendly Scotland.
