The motion

That the Parliament warmly congratulates the University of Dundee academic, Dr Sarah Martins da Silva, on being named by the BBC in its list, 100 Women 2019, which highlights the work of inspiring and influential women from across the globe; notes that Sarah, who is an honorary consultant gynaecologist with NHS Tayside based at Ninewells Hospital, works as a senior lecturer in reproductive medicine at the University’s school of medicine and leads pioneering research focused on male infertility issues, sperm biology and drug discovery to try to stop women being subjected to unnecessary and invasive fertility treatments; notes that she features on the list alongside prominent campaigners, such as the climate change activist, Greta Thunberg, and the US congresswoman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez; considers that Sarah's inclusion in the list is well-deserved; wishes her continued success in her career, and hopes that this recognition will be an inspiration to many people, including girls and young women considering careers in academia and health.
