Stirling’s Nanairo Ekiden 2020
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the Nanairo Ekiden event taking place on 8 March to begin celebrations ahead of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics 2020; recognises that the event, hosted and organised by students of the University of Stirling, has been designed to promote Olympics and Paralympic values of inclusion through sport, cutting across cultural, disability, gender and age divides; notes that a Nanairo Ekiden is a Japanese-style relay race whereby participants pass on a Japanese cloth sash called a tasuki, which originated in Japan in conjunction with the University of Tsukuba, and has since been successfully run all over the world; recognises that the event will also feature International Women’s Day activities and interactive stalls aimed at promoting inclusion and bringing together Japanese and Scottish culture; praises the efforts of everyone involved in bringing this event together for the community, and wishes the event every success.
