The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the imminent arrival of the forthcoming annual National School Sport Week campaign, which will take place from 20 to 26 June 2020 to highlight the important role of physical education and school sport in enhancing young people’s wellbeing; understands that, this year, the UK’s Youth Sport Trust will run a national campaign that will aim to unite the country, families, schools, sport and businesses, in what it describes as a celebration of the power of sport to bring people together, even during isolation; notes that the UK-wide campaign will challenge people to take on their families, friends and neighbours in virtual sporting challenges, helping them to connect in an unprecedented period of school closures and social distancing; further notes that the campaign intends to build on the Youth Sport Trust’s #StayHomeStayActive campaign, which has been supporting schools, parents and young people with free daily resources to get young people moving and enjoying the PE curriculum while at home; acknowledges that the Trust will provide everyone who registers online with free videos and activity cards to help them plan a series of challenges across National School Sport Week at Home, and commends the Youth Sport Trust for such a proactive campaign that aims to put first the physical and mental health of young people right across Scotland and the UK.
