The motion

That the Parliament recognises that Reserves Day' 2020 will be celebrated across the UK on 24 June; acknowledges that Reserves from across the Armed Forces give up their spare time to serve, balancing their civilian life with a highly-trained military career so that they can serve the country when required; understands that they make up approximately one-sixth of the nation's military personnel and are integral to protecting security at home and overseas, particularly by providing capability in specialist areas, such as medical and cyber, air and space operations and intelligence; recognises that Reserves have recently been deployed to support public services as part of the COVID Support Force alongside regular personnel and have been mobilised across Scotland and the rest of  the UK to carry a number of duties, including assisting with the building and setting-up of emergency hospitals, such as the NHS Louisa Jordan in Glasgow, delivering medical supplies and PPE, driving oxygen tankers and delivering and collecting testing kits; acknowledges that the contribution Reserves make often goes unrecognised and that the awareness day was established to highlight and recognise their valuable contribution, dedication, professionalism and commitment; notes that the Armed Services ask employers to thank Reserves on the day by asking them wear their uniforms in their civilian workplace; recognises the value that Reserves bring to communities and workplaces, and commends their service to the country.
