The motion

That the Parliament notes the launch of the Scottish SPCA’s revamped educational programme for schools and communities, Animal Wise, recognising that education lies at the heart of prevention of cruelty by expanding support for young people and communities from traditional classroom visits to include e-learning activities, virtual tours of centres and webinars; notes that this also encompasses the Society’s Animal Guardians programme, working with children who are showing behaviours towards animals that are a cause of concern; further notes that, during lockdown, education packs were downloaded over 6,000 times and that additionally around 1,000 packs, with the help of Barnardo’s and Police Scotland, were distributed to children who did not have the facilities to access the packs online, and congratulates the Scottish SPCA on this innovative engagement with young people and the wider community at large at a time when, during the COVID-19 pandemic, animals are playing such a large part in providing companionship.
