The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the launch of Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans, the new names of Royal Blind and Scottish War Blinded, on World Sight Day, 8 October 2020; acknowledges the vital role played by the charities in providing education, employment and care services for people living with visual impairment of every age, and for veterans living with sight loss; understands that, every hour, someone will start to lose their sight and that the number of people who are blind or partially-sighted in Scotland is set to increase by 30,000 in the next decade to over 200,000; recognises that a major survey of over 400 people with visual impairment by Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans found that over two-thirds said they felt their sight loss had made lockdown a more difficult experience; believes that this shows the need to raise awareness of the impact of the pandemic on people with visual impairment, and commends all the charities working throughout Scotland that provide vital support for people living with visual impairment.
