Tribute to MND Advocate and My Name’5 Doddie Foundation
The motion
That the Parliament pays tribute to Patrick Quinn, one of the men who helped drive the wildly popular Ice Bucket Challenge fundraising campaign to raise money and awareness about motor neurone disease (MND) (or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) as it is known in the United States), who has died aged 37; recognises the role of Patrick in the success of the campaign, which raised £163 million for MND/ALS research; praises Doddie Weir, from the Scottish Borders, and the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation for their work in the UK to find a cure for MND, and recognises the foundation’s most recent fundraising efforts, including hosting an online whisky auction featuring a number of highly sought-after bottles to raise money in a different and safe way during the coronavirus pandemic.
