The motion

That the Parliament recognises that 4 February 2021 is World Cancer Day, the day each year, since it began in 2000, when the entire world can unite in the fight against cancer; understands that cancer is the second-leading cause of death worldwide, with 10 million people each year sadly dying from the disease; further understands that at least one third of common cancers are preventable by reducing exposure to risk factors such as tobacco, obesity, lack of physical activity, infections, alcohol, environmental pollution, occupational carcinogens and radiation; further understands that pancreatic cancer is still showing the lowest survival rates of all common cancers, but that new statistics published by Public Health Scotland show an increase in pancreatic cancer survival rates in Scotland; recognises the ongoing challenges that NHS staff face to deliver cancer services during the COVID-19 pandemic and thanks them for their outstanding efforts, and recognises the worldwide efforts to unite society and do everything possible to see an increase in the number of people surviving cancer.
