Perth Named UNESCO City of Craft and Folk Art

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Perth in becoming the first UK city to join UNESCO’s Creative City Network as a City of Crafts and Folk Art; recognises that, in doing so, Perth will join the established group of 50 countries in celebrating the sector, including Jaipur and Cairo; acknowledges the hard work undertaken by Perth and Kinross Council, craftspeople, and makers in succeeding in what is understood to have been a competitive bidding process, and which highlighted plans for how the arts and crafts can reuse and recycle materials in order to meet carbon neutral commitments, and recognises that this accolade brings many positive benefits to the city and its surrounding region.
