Funding for Accessible and Affordable Fife Sports and Leisure Facilities

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes news that Fife Sports and Leisure Trust has announced further funding to help young people in Fife access affordable sports and leisure facilities; recognises that the programmes have been announced in partnership with Fife Council through its Winter Concessionary Funding initiative and will target support to ensure that more young people in Fife get active; understands that the trust has planned a number of initiatives, including the Learn to Swim programme, which will give up to 100 fully-funded lessons for 12 months to eligible children, will be available at all nine of the trust’s pools, and will focus on providing opportunities for children who would otherwise not access swimming lessons; notes that the trust will also launch a new Active Teens programme, which is aimed at encouraging teens to get active in a warm, safe, non-competitive environment, with a focus on fun, and will take the form of 60-minute sessions at Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre, Carnegie Leisure Centre, Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre, East Sands Leisure Centre, Dalgety Bay Sports and Leisure Centre, and Levenmouth Swimming Pool; recognises what it sees as the importance of children, young people and families getting out and being active; welcomes programmes that give young people the chance to socialise, take part in group activities and make friends, and wishes everyone involved in the programmes the best of luck in the years to come.
