Congratulating Prince Edward on His Appointment as the New Duke of Edinburgh

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Prince Edward on his appointment as the new Duke of Edinburgh, following the passing of his father, the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh; notes the longstanding and significant contribution made by the Duke of Edinburgh to public life, including his work with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, which has benefited young people across Scotland and around the world; recognises the close links between the Duke of Edinburgh and the city of Edinburgh, and what it sees as the importance of these ties to the people of Edinburgh; welcomes Prince Edward’s commitment to continuing the Duke of Edinburgh’s legacy and the positive impact that it has had on the lives of young people, and wishes him well as he takes on this new role.
