Scottish-trained Entries at the Grand National

The motion

That the Parliament wishes the very best of luck to the two Scottish-trained entries in the Randox Health Grand National at Aintree on 15 April 2023, Lucinda Russell’s Corach Rambler and Sandy Thomson’s Hill Sixteen, in a bid to bring the prize back to Scotland; acknowledges that horseracing in Scotland is reportedly worth over £300 million to the Scottish economy; believes that British racing continues to take the health of equine participants extremely seriously, with many welfare measures taken to improve on what it considers are the already high standards of equine welfare; considers that this is demonstrated across Scotland’s five racecourses, and in the independent Horse Welfare Board’s strategy, A life well-lived, which is supported by £3 million of funding from the Racing Foundation; encourages those betting on the race to bet responsibly, and wishes them the best of luck with their selections.
