The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Open University (OU) in Scotland on its Skills for Business Roadshows across Scotland to tackle the challenges facing employers in staff retention and access to a skilled workforce; commends the partnership working between the OU in Scotland and Scottish Chambers of Commerce, as well as the Cairngorms Business Partnership and Business Improvement Districts, which are co-hosting roadshows, including those in Ayrshire, Dundee and Angus, Dumfries and Galloway, Fife, Forth Valley, Inverness and Moray; understands that, through access to the Scottish Government’s Flexible Workforce Development Fund, SMEs can access training provided by the OU up to the value of £5,000 to support the upskilling and reskilling of existing staff, and that employers paying the Apprenticeship Levy can access training worth up to £15,000, and wishes all participants every success in matching employers and workforce skills needs with the opportunities available to ensure that the Scottish economy is well suited to meet the challenges of the future.
