Celebrating 10 Years of Perth-based Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) Life-saving Service

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Perth-based Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) on marking 10 years of life-saving service; understands that, since 22 May 2013, the charity has responded to nearly 5,000 call-outs, raised over £50 million and flown nearly half a million miles across Scotland; believes that the service has saved thousands of lives, particularly impacting remote and rural areas; considers that the service has doubled crew numbers, extended operational hours, developed its workforce and has grown nearly 200 volunteers nationwide; understands that SCAA’s crews are responding to an average of three emergencies every day, sometimes as many as 12, and that the service is fully integrated into the 999 emergency response network, deployed by the Scottish Ambulance Service special services desk to serious illness and injury anywhere in Scotland and its many islands; considers that the service is a vital part of the country’s chain of critical interventions; understands that SCAA receives no government funding and is supported entirely by public donations; is extremely grateful to the Board of Trustees, which governs the charity, the charity team, the volunteers and also to the businesses, trusts, foundations, organisations and individuals whose generosity has sustained the service; extends its deepest heartfelt sympathy to family, friends and colleagues of the SCAA’s chairman, John Bullough, who recently passed away suddenly; understands that the charity will dedicate this milestone anniversary to John’s memory, and extends its very best wishes to the continued success of the charity and for all who will enjoy the celebrations.
