The motion

That the Parliament sends its warmest congratulations to Jamie Aarons on achieving the fastest-ever self-propelled time for completing all of Scotland’s 282 Munros; recognises that she completed the challenge in 31 days, 10 hours and 27 minutes, doing the round in less than half of the time of the previous female record, and surpassing the male record, which is 31 days, 23 hours and 2 minutes, set by Donnie Campbell in 2020; commends the endurance athlete for raising over £12,000 for the charity, World Bicycle Relief, as of reaching her final summit; notes that the 43-year-old began the challenge on 26 May 2023, with an ascent of Ben More on Mull, and finished on the 26 June after summitting Ben Klibreck in the far north of Scotland; understands that Jamie travelled approximately 3,000 km, with 140,000 m of ascent, by walking, running, cycling and kayaking, and recognises what it sees as the truly extraordinary demonstration of peak human mental and physical endurance on Scotland’s mountains over 3,000 ft.
